Please note that the July 2011 Mass will be on the second Sunday of the month, July 10, at 11.30am.

February Mass Date Change

Please note that the February 2010 Mass will be held on the 21st, the First Sunday of Lent, at 11.30am at the Chapel at Mount Saint Canice.

Change of Venue for March Mass

Please note that on Sunday March 1, Mass will not be at Mount Saint Canice due to renovations. Instead, Mass will be at Sandy Bay Parish's Holy Spirit Church on the corner of Duke Street and Sandy Bay Road at the usual time of 11.30am.

2009 Tassie Traddies Calendar

A special Tasmanian traditional Catholic calendar is now available via Redbubble. It features images of Mount Saint Canice, Mass in the extraordinary form, and two Pugin churches.

Hobart Masses in 2009

Please note that there will only be eleven Masses in the extraordinary form next year, on the first Sunday of each month starting on February 1. There will be no January Mass.

Juventutem Music

A 2-CD set of music from the Juventutem liturgies in Sydney will be on sale very soon from the Central Catholic Bookshop in Melbourne. This includes selections from three Pontifical Masses and Solemn Vespers with Cardinal Pell. The retail price is expected to be only $20. This would make an excellent gift for both family and friends. Proceeds go to help support youth groups attached to the Extraordinary Form here in Australia.

Cardinal Castrillon Announces Restoration of Gregorian Rite in ALL parishes.

Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos has just announced that the Gregorian Rite will be restored to all parishes whether it has been requested or not. He has also clarified that the stable group referred into the motu proprio is three or more (and may be from different parishes). For more information, see Latin Mass to Return

Genuflect As Often As You Like, Whenever You Like!

There has been some concern about the latest directives from the Tasmanian Liturgical Commission that one should bow the head only and not genuflect before receiving Communion. Cardinal Pell has been consulted on this matter and said that the changes do not say one should not genuflect and that one may genuflect as often as one wishes. Bishop Jarrett has also written an article elaborating on this. So, genuflect as often as you like, whenever you like... and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

June Mass Change of Date

The TLM in June will be on the SECOND Sunday, the 8th, not the first as Father Q. will be away. Apologies for any inconvenience!

Mass in January: Change of Date

The next TLM will be on the LAST Sunday in January, the 27th, as Father Quinn will be away earlier in the month. Therefore, we will have two TLM's in a row: January 27 and February 3. The January 27 Mass will also be followed by a NACF (National Association of Catholic Families) picnic.

There will be a special Mass to promote Tasmania's Juventutem pilgrims to World Youth Day on November 18 at 6pm at Mount Saint Canice. Juventutem's patron, His Excellency Governor Cox, will be attending; and Father Glen Tattersall from FSSP in Melbourne will be the celebrant. This is an event not to be missed, so put it in your diaries and invite all your family and friends!

Baby Traddies

Welcome to Tasmania's two newest traddies: Henrietta, born on May 3, and William, born on May 10. William was baptised at Pentecost and Henrietta is scheduled to be baptised on the Vigil of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.

Mass in July

Please note that Father Quinn will be away on the first Sunday of July, so the Traditional Latin Mass will take place on July 8 instead.

Our very own Governor Cox has accepted an invitation to be one of two patrons of Juventutem Australia at next year's World Youth Day. So, next time you see His Excellency at Mass, be sure to thank him for his support of the traditional Catholic community!
